Date of travel: 8/5/2012 We were leaving Olympos at 5am riding up the hills through the foggy morning mist. Soon we reached a small town and to our surprise a little market was already open so I went inside to pick up bread, yogurt and fresh fruit. When I walked back outside Eric smiled at me and said “looks like we got a new friend” while nodding towards our bikes. There was a black and white terrier mix with big floppy ears that started wagging her tail and walking towards me once she saw me. She laid down right by my feet, rolled onto her back and looked at me with longing eyes....

Olympos Beach – Tree Houses and Ancient Ruins

Dates of travel: 8/1 – 8/4/2012 A beach with turquoise blue water and ruins from different ancient times scattered all around. A small town with treehouse-like hostels. That’s Olympos, a small municipality 80km south of Antalya. To get there we had to climb several steep hills before we got to cruise downhill all the way into the valley. I had done some research and chosen Beyram’s Treehouses as our hostel based on its good reviews and we weren’t disappointed. For 16 Euros each we got comfy beds in a bungalow and all-you-can-eat breakfast and dinner buffets. When one...

Roasting Like Turkeys in Turkey

We were a bit nervous to take our first flight with the bikes. We had chosen to fly to Antalya since this was the cheapest fare we could get from Germany to Turkey. It is a popular holiday destination for Europeans with resorts lining the beaches for miles and miles. There are flights to Antalya  every day from almost every airport and we ended up paying less than 100 bucks each for our tickets with SunXpress. We got to the airport in Berlin about 3 hours before our scheduled departure. Equipped with a big roll of shrink wrap, two rolls of tape and a bunch of boxes we went to work on...

Last Week in Morocco (Oualidia to Casablanca to Tangier)

Dates of travel: 5/17 – 5/21/2012 Our tour up the Atlantic Coast of northern Morocco was starting to move along quickly. Each day we were making further distances. Fantastic coast line of endless roads opened up before us only interrupted once every 80 km by a curious city. The terrain was mostly flat with decent road quality. One night we stayed at a resort town named Oualidia. Anja was able to negotiate a good price for a clean room with actual hot water for the shower. Hot water is a luxury we will never take for granted again after some of the hotels we have stayed in here in...

Video – Morocco Part 1

This is a series of short clips put together with some background music. It was mostly shot when our friend Synke joined us. We all really enjoyed mild weather amidst the desert like surroundings. We peddled through areas such as Telouet and Ait Ben Haddou, but you will also see that we took a bus to some more remote areas. The roads and traffic in many areas in Morocco where a little too dangerous for Anja and I at this point in our cycle touring tenure. I believe as we move forward we will become braver and braver in picking how many locations we are willing to cycle to without the safety...
